Showoff Friday
I pieced the background, appliqued the chickens, free motion stitched the words and quilting. I sewed on button eyes with DMC thread, machine stitched the front and back together then mitered the corners.
I used extra soft, puffy, fluffy stuffing and hand stitched the bottom closed.
I completed three and have two more in the works.
That's it!

Free furniture and sticker shock
I scored our little battery TV at that same stop!
Well over the weekend my hubbie and I decided a good house cleaning was in order. Yes he cleans AND is good looking.
I liked our old table, it was a hand me down from the 70's that had 3 leaves to add and made it huge. We got 12 at a time at that baby. The problem was even with the leaves out, we all had a bad habit of leaving paperwork and junk mail on it. The four of us each had a corner stacked with clutter. We moved the monster table to the basement for crafts and sewing, hubbie cleaned up the "new" table, power washed all the rugs, while I did the nitty gritty and de-cluttered.
Check out the corners, no clutter!
The good news is I have clean, less cluttered home and I get to search for new curbside chairs!

1 year
I have had my blog for one year today. Little did I know what I was getting into. I started reading other peoples crafty blogs and thought what a fun thing to do. A journal for myself but also to show others the little things I am doing in my day to day. The fact that any of you find it interesting is just a bonus!
I then pureed the thick tomatoes, add the spices, sauteed the onions an garlic in a separate pan.
I ended up with only 2 quarts worth of sauce, not worth canning right? WRONG!

I just use a smaller enamel pot lined with old canning rings twist tied together to keep the jars off the bottom.
I went back out to the garden, picked the beans and made a 2 pint batch of dilly beans with what i had.
I got water boiling, put the 4 jars in, took the dilly beans out after 10 minutes, got the sauce out after 40.
It doesn't have to be all or nothing.
Last evening while watching mindless TV, I sliced more apples and got out the dehydrator.
I woke to a quart of apple chips.
I put some in the kids lunchboxes and snacked on some myself.
With rising food costs, every little bit will help this winter.
I want to thank you for the wonderful year of sharing ideas, your funny, kind and thoughtful comments and new friendships!

Labor Day Weekend
Good news, Friday I had to call for my Jury Duty instructions and after an hour of calling, I got through and was told they didn't need me this week, Yay! I was also told I get to call again this Friday eve, hopefully not for a full hour again, and find out if they need me next week, B00!
Saturday
Since I am queen of procrastination, after making the salsa, I started making the gifts.
I put the letter of their first name on the front pocket.
The girls liked their bags, the salsa was a hit. One SIL said "It's so good, I cant stop eating it!" I had made a big batch and it was gone. Score one for garden veggies!
I just use tomatoes, onion, green peppers(seeded), one or two jalapenos (seeded)a splash of cider vinegar, a bit of salt, a bit more of sugar and some dried cilantro (I don't care for fresh). Grind in a food processor. I add some chopped tomatoes and onion for bigger chunks and that's it.
Sunday
Do you remember our logs from our work back in June?
On Sunday I split them all with the help of this handy dandy machine.
...the girl and I picked apples.
Monday
The skin is so yellow. I plan on cooking it tonight.
I talked to my sister this morning and she was grossed out. She said she never could do that. Now keep in mind she isn't a vegetarian. I told her, I gave him food and care, he was allowed to roam our land pecking and scratching, chasing bugs and other chickens. Other than the last 30 seconds of its life, he had it pretty good. Can the factory chickens claim that?
I also told her that so many people are disconnected where their food comes from that they will eat chicken nuggets not caring how many chickens died for that pressed meat or how they were treated before that. She agreed.
Now I'm not saying what others should or shouldn't do for the food they eat, I have been blissfully downing food for years without concern for where it came from. This is what I am doing now and don't want to be made to feel bad about it.
Ok, so back to Monday
Hubbie moved tons of dirt. We sometimes get road run off into our pond so he has been building up the side to prevent that from happening.
The kids and I stacked the firewood.
It feels good to get a good start on lowering our heating costs this winter.
It's the kids first day back to school.
Now I'm off to the kitchen to tackle those apples.
