Showoff Friday

I have a horrible habit of putting work last. Working from home is tough, (not that way, I know how great I have it) it's just the work around the that house calls to me first, it's nice because I get a lot done around the house but it's bad because I'm broke.
I'm calling it showoff Fridays because it feels like I'm showing off and I am SO not like that, I have the typical artist insecurities and hold my breath whenever I show anyone what I have been working on, expecting the worst. Not that I'm fishing for compliments or anything. OK, I'll shut up now.
So my goal is to have Friday as my deadline each week to show what I've done, making myself work and load some of the items on my very neglected Etsy shop and set some aside for local shows. Not putting work on the back burner.
ANYWAY, here goes.

I started making pillows.

I pieced the background, appliqued the chickens, free motion stitched the words and quilting. I sewed on button eyes with DMC thread, machine stitched the front and back together then mitered the corners.

I used extra soft, puffy, fluffy stuffing and hand stitched the bottom closed.

I completed three and have two more in the works.

That's it!

Farm news.

This "meat" rooster was injured last week, I'm guessing from another roo. Anyway I've been caring for him and have been bringing him food water and hand picking grass for him. Not good. Now I love him, notice the tag on his foot so he won't accidentally get eaten, also notice how he favors his left leg. If I was a true hardcore farm gal I would have just finished him off the day he was injured and put him in the freezer. A true hardcore farm gal wouldn't want a limping roo representing the flock.
This wimpy farm gal wants to keep a nice sweet rooster and wants to eat all the other roosters who may have done this to him.
Oh yeah, this was my 200th post, geez I talk a lot.

Wow, is it Friday already? Love the pillows..but you already knew how I felt about your work. The added writing is adorable.
I think sometimes it's ok not to be a hardcore farmgirl. Burning question on my mind: will you call him "Meaty"?
Geez, you DO talk a lot. I'm not too far behind you, though; I've got 188 posts under my belt. Still, you do talk more than I do. Chatty Chatster. heh

That's right Danni, we're cold and heartless, right? *tsk tsk* Us hardcore farm gals! (Just teasin') Who'm I kidding, I wanted to keep our limper too, even though he would mean an end to our breeding program! Doing this farm thing is tough, on many levels. You gotta figure out how to do it in a way that makes you happy and comfortable....even if it means you end up being a retirement home for all manner of roos.....buried in roos.....known as "that crazy rooster lady" to all the neighbors.... ;p Oh, and btw.....LOVE the pillows!! :)

Farmgirl, thanks.
Meaty is a good name, even more so after I saw what was hanging out of his sliced open skin.
Chatty Chatster, too funny. :-0

Farmmom, I didn't mean cold and heartless :-( Just a do what you gotta do kind of gal, like my Grandma was, and not be a big wussy.
The roosters have been so annoying, I can't wait to ship them off to freezer camp. No crazy rooser lady here. ;-) I might just keep Hammy and Meaty.
Thanks for the pillow love.

Hmmm, maybe Meat Rooster will somehow turn into nasty rooster and then you'll have to eat him.
You know what they say, there usually has to be an instigator. And maybe Meat Rooster aggravated one of your other roosters?

Well it sounds good in theory, but I'm soft like you. After you start nursing on and spending more time with an animal it doesn't seem like food. It seems more like a pet.

Oh the farm life dilemmas!

Congrats on your 200+ posts. I actually wish you'd post more. I love reading your blog and check it almost every day.

Ya know what? Today is my 2 year blog anniversary! And I've embarassed to admit that I've written over 350 posts. Crazy eh?

I'm hosting a contest for my long time special blog readers, so I hope you'll participate. There will be a great prize!

Oh, and I just love your chickie pillows. I imagine them sitting on a cozy bench in a beautiful country kitchen. :)

LOVE the pillows!! My DH may be getting your blog address because my birthday is coming up.

As for your roo. If he's truly a a Cornish cross/meat bird, his little heart will give out at about 12 weeks anyway. You can eat him then. :)

LOVE the pillows, but then...I love all your stuff!

200? Chatty Cathy, huh? Keep it up. I love coming by here. I dunno, tho, Danni seems to be coming up behind ya....you gonna let her pass you?

Wimpy or not, you're my kind of Farm Gal all the way! What's one more rooster around the place, right?

LOVE the new pillows--you have such a great eye for fabric and texture.

Hey Twinville, You are probably right, it takes 2 to tango. I just cant help but feel for the limpy guy.
I have a hard time posting, not that i don't have a bunch of mundane, about my day topics mind you, it's just my family expects me to actually work around here, not to mention, they rarely give me a chance at the computer on weekends.

I loved your contest, so fun.
Thanks for the pillow love.

Ceecee, when is your birthday? I think we are the same age. Mines in November.

The "meat" birds aren't technically just for meat, more of a dual purpose. Not the Cornish Cross but the Dark Cornish. Mine are actually 20 weeks now. They are great foragers and great layers and setters.

Frugalmom, thanks for the pillow love.
For some reason Danni has been slacking in the posting department lately, I wonder if she's busy with her farm and houseguests? Anyway, I'm not worried. Should I start worrying? Great now I'm worried.

Kathryn and Ari, you are both so sweet. It's funny because I really don't like roosters that much, he just seems so vulnerable.
Thanks for the pillow love.

No worrying necessary. I think I will always be a number of posts (and more than a few steps) behind you. :-)

I love the pillows!
I like the tag idea. I need to tag a few since my husband was talking about putting some of the extra roosters in the freezer...
Now that I think about it, Bad boy rooster may need to watch out.
Congratulations on your 200th post.

Those pillows are gorgeous! I'm trying to applique for the first time this weekend. What I wouldn't give to have it turn out as cute as yours! Maybe after a few years of practice...

I adore the blue one! I wish I was that talented. Try as I may I'm just not very creative. I think it was nice of you to help the injured rooster. There are a lot of tough choices to make when it comes to raising animals. I've had to make a few myself regarding my chickens.

Where did you get your dark cornish? About how old is that roo when he got injured?

Really interesting blog. Plan on ordering a heritage breed soon but not sure on what kind. Dark Cornish are the most appealing so far.
