New Adventures

Bandit took her brood out and about for the first time yesterday.
I find watching them interact is one of the most adorable things i have ever seen.
She clucks, they peep and look up at her with such adoration. I'll see her just sitting, then she stands and they pour out from under, then run around and over her back.

It is strange to see the little ones out not needing a heat lamp.

When we got back from our evening bike ride, the girl noticed 2 out of the coop. They couldn't manage the step, so I grabbed Bandit and the babies ran over and we got them settled. Sometimes new mamas need a helping hand.

The amber raspberries are ripe.

Golden orbs of deliciousness.

I have gotten almost ziltch done on the sewing front but we got the rental house cleaned and painted, the new tenants are in...

... and cleared the two trees that came down in the backyard and brought home all the wood.

The nice thing is, the four of us working together, we got it cut, loaded and home in half a day.

A family that works together, stays warm together.

Ok, no more excuses, other than laundry, house cleaning, gardening, feeding my family, blog reading ( you ladies are too interesting). I need to get back to work.

That must be so much fun to watch Bandit and her wee ones interact...so different from our first experiences with brooder boxes and heat lamps, etc. Is she feeding them exclusively or have you put out chick crumbles? Are the other hens jealous?

I l.o.v.e. a hen and her chicks! My Rosie was such a wonderful mother. All the clucking and chatting that goes on between them. Their tiny pea brains are sure good at holding that maternal instinct intact.

Awwwww! Gives new meaning to "Chick TV", doesn't it?

What a beutiful Mama, Bandit is. You must be so proud of her. I'd be sitting there all day watching her and her precious brood and get nother else done.
I don't know how you do either.

Man, that is one humongous pile of cut firewood! Kudos to all of you for your super quick hard work.

And you know I'm drooling over those golden berries. What?! No adorable handmade Berry Marker?! :)

Hi farmgirl- I'm hoping to skip the brooder from now on if i can.
I did provide crumbles, even free range needs some extra food. The other hens are behaving themselves, we'll see as the chicks get older.

Hi ceecee- It is such a great experience. Tiny pea brains, you're a crack up!

Hi twinville- I do like watching her but i also want to give her space plus I"M SO BUSY!

I'm not sure how much wood it is until I split and stack it but i'm hoping for a good month or two worth of burning this winter. Luckily I have 2 strong kids who help out.

I put my order in, I'll have to crack the whip and get my mom working on those markers.
