Warning Graphic

ly embarrassing photos.

I have a dirty little secret. I never wanted to talk about it before, but since I have gotten to know you all better, found out how kind and supportive you all are, I figured now is the time to come clean.

Any time in the past if I showed you photos of my chicken coop, this is what you saw.
Our little Coop DeVille, we named it that as we were towing it down the road to our house.

It's our old playhouse when I was a kid, turned outhouse, turned hunting blind (w/camo paint), turned coop. I was our first coop, it cost us nothing, we used leftover supplies to spruce it up.

The problem was, it was small. Perfect for our first flock of seven, but where can I keep the next batch of chicks?

This is the scary truth.

I like to do things myself without asking for much help. What was I to do? I was desperate. I have a brother in law who works for Visteon and they get huge shipments from Germany. Huge shipments, huge crates!

I got a 7 foot crate, built a wall to cover the opening, installed a window and door, plus a window in the back.

This was the best I could do.

I call it Shed #2 because that what was written on the crate. I am SO clever with names.

I really was hoping to put on a better roof than just rubber roof paper, I even was going to paint it and maybe add a crooked flower box to match the crooked wall, but once the girls were in, I lost my motivation.

Here I am, three years later with a sad, leaky, ugly box sitting in my backyard.
I am not proud of it, I don't want to show it off. I feel guilt every time I tuck my girls in at night. They deserve better.

Why am I confessing this and risking ridicule?

That is for another post!

You are a hoot! I can't count the number of unfinished/unstarted projects I have.
Maybe take on one task at a time with your 'new' coop. Roof in the next quarter, paint in the following 3 months. One bit at a time takes the "I'll never get this done" out of the equation.

Hmmmm...and speaking of embarrassing...I had just finished downloading the last picture of my completed chicken coop project for my blog post on THE DAMN PROJECT THAT WOULDN'T END - er, I mean the "simple" set-up I've got for my own chickens...but after this, I'm thinking now I'll wait a few days before I post it. LOL

By the way, a more appropriate name for "Shed #2" would have been "Crater", don't you think? Along the lines of Shoebird, you know?

Heelarious! Nothing like showing things as they really are though I am not quite ready to do the same on my blog yet.

I am sure your girls don't mind a bit, apart from the leaky roof perhaps.:):)

Okay. Who wants the Hilton when you can stay at the SCS bed and breakfast and get yummy, warm meals and super sweet lovely ladies to visit with, such as yourself. I mean, cmon.

I am SO laughing over here.

Hey! Are those a set of re-modeling plans?

Ceecee, luckily I won't have to finish this one. YAY!

Farmgirl, my coop is WAY more embarassing than yours taking forever. Don't make us wait too long for your next post, and it better be funny!
Crater is an awesome name. It's new name is Destined for the Burn Pit.

Mo, now that I opened this ugly can of worms, theres no telling what else I may show you around here.

Frugalmom, my girls won't have to wait very long for the Hilton. :-)

Laughing Orca, I'm glad I made you laugh with that one. I have been laughing ever since I built it.

Not a re-model but a new building altogether!
