Peer Pressure

A couple of weeks ago one of our hens gifted us with a tiny egg. I guess it has been going around.

Ceecee left me a comment about hers and asked if mine had a yolk. And Danni who weighs her eggs requested I weigh mine.

Great, I don't have a scale, I could take it to the Post Office but I go there regularly and don't want to be known as the weird lady who asks you to weigh tiny eggs, so what was I to do.

After putting some serious thought and a couple of naps it came to me, my stepmom has every gadget known to man, I bet she has a digital scale.

I called, she did, road trip!

I packed up my little egg and drove the 2 miles.

We weighed it.

See. Danni won, hers was only .4 oz.

I didn't want to crack the shell so I poked a couple of holes,

and blew. (Sorry no pics of that one, who knows what sort of people that would attract)

It was mostly egg white, a strange little yolk and some alien like substance hovering around.

Well ladies, there you have it.

That is so funny. I have had those teeny tiny eggs before and most of the time there was no yolk. I also get some that have a soft membrane instead of a shell occasionally. Cute little egg though. I am loving your new header. Perfect.

Sigh. I feel so inexplicably happy when provided with specific measurements. Thank you for the extra effort on this. Did your MIL give you this scale? If she didn't, she should. You know this situation will arise again - only maybe next time the egg will be really BIG. Who should I contact on your behalf? :-)

Cool stuff, Michelle.

I had been saving 6 of the tiniest eggs ever...only a couple ounces each, only as big as a quarter or a large grape. They were so cute!
But hubby opened the fridge and knocked the cup holding them...right out...splat!
I was so sad. One survived though. I doubt that one is even .2oz. I'll have to weigh it on my scale. Now I want to know. lol!

Your Easter eggs turned out very pretty! I'd never heard of anyone not thinking they couldn't dye brown eggs. In fact brown eggs give the final color a wonderful deeper richer dyed color. My kids had a great time dying eggs this year, too.

I'm glad you guys enjoyed a wonderful Easter.

ps I just got out into the garage last week and cleaned up in there as much as I was able. And I discovered at least 10 chicken feed bags that I am planning to send you for your feed bag bags.
Drop me an e-mail with your address and I'll get these boxed up to send to you. :)

Michelle!! You caved! I feel so lonely over here, the only girl who doesn't weigh her eggs....tell me you're not suddenly feeling the inexplicable urge to weigh and catalog every one....please? ;)

Frugalmom, I knew she'd come through with her gadgets.

I noticed her umbrella too, the only colorful thing on an otherwise gloomy day.

Egghead, we get those softshell eggs (I call them egg waterballons) now and again, but not too many tiny ones.
Thanks for the props on the new header, I change them often but may keep this one awhile. :-)

Farmgirl, I knew it would make you happy. My Stepmom does gift me now and then with a gadget that didn't work as well as she hoped, but I dont think this one is comming to live with me. I can run down the road and measure the BIG ones too. ;-)

Hi Lisa, so sorry to hear of your tiny egg loss. I was curious on the weight of such an itty bitty egg.
I so agree with the easter egg colors. Now way could I even think of the store bought white.
My hear skipped a beat at the thought of all those chicken feed bags, sadly ours are paper. :-( I'll contact you soon.

Patrice Farmer, I didn't know there were such fancy scales out there.
It was a strange egg, I'm keeping the shell. Does that make me the strange one?

Farm mom, after seeing that farmgirl had such small eggs, I HAD to see what mine weighed. It was the inner competitor that made me weigh mine, it makes me appreciate how tiny her .2oz egg was.
Trust me, there is no way I am starting an egg calendar but I am secretly wishing for more tiny and huge eggs to weigh.

Don't knock the INCREDIBLY COOL egg calendar until you try one. I'm just sayin'....
(to use an overused phrase that hasn't been used in a while)

Oh no farmgirl, I'm not knocking your incredibly cool calendar, I just know me and I would only stick with it for about a day and a half.

Now see...if only you lived closer... :-)
My word verification is "ROCKER"
I feel really cool right now.

I have 3 dozen eggs in my fridge right now that need to be weighed. They have little post it notes on the cartons that say"need to be weighed"...so that they dont get used yet.
