Back to things around here that make me smile
Bratty and her brood.
Bratty has been an amazing mama. The thing I love is that she totally trusts me around her babies and not the other chickens as seen in the video.
The cukes are starting.
I see pickles in my future.

Ha, I love momma chickens! They spend so much of their day "talking" to the chicks. I often wonder if half of their pea-sized brain isn't devoted to chick care?
I'm glad you're having a few smiles to put your weekend behind you.
What a good (and beautiful) mama, Bratty is. It's plain to see that she trusts you to protect her as her guardian.
What does Brownie do when she gets too close to Bratty and her babes?
I don't know if you mentioned who the roo is of those chicks?
I'm so happy for you that you've been able to slow down again and get back to the more joyful and simple things in life :)
(Oh and congrats on your award! You SO deserve it. You really are AWESOME!)
We have tons of flowers on our cuke plants, but no cukes in site. Of course, the bees are pretty scarce as well.
Great video! That is the sweetest thing and I love hearing the mama and chick noises. So, do they free range for a bit each day when you're there to stand guard and then go back into a "safe place" away from the other chickens?
And what award did you get?
ceecee-I know it is amazing how dedicated they are to those babies. Just being home gives me the good vibes.
twinville-Bratty is so sweet now, I almost want to change her name.
Brownie is a more dominant hen and will chase her off but the other hens leave the babies alone.
I got the eggs from my dad and he has Jersey Giants, so she is I guess the surrogate who got to keep the babies.
Ahh yes, home sweet home.
Thanks, I have no clue how to move the award here. I'm surprised each day that I can actually turn on this box, i think its called a computer.
frugalmom-I was not seeing any bees for weeks, but in the last few days I can see tons. Hooray for bees!
The mama and chick noises are just so adorable it is bordering on nausea.
All my gals free range, I'm just now letting my meat ones out. I'm too lazy to stand guard but the mamas don't go too far from the coop. The others respect the moms mostly unless I'm pouring out feed. They do have their own little sleeping spaces at night.
I got an Awesome site award from Children in the Corn which means tons coming from an awesome farm mom.
I still don't know how to do these things, i will never win an award for my computer knowledge.
i can help you with the award transfer stuff. if you need my help, let me know :-)
congrats!!
Hey! I tagged you for the game
"6 Things you don't know about Me".
I hope you'll participate :)
I'm glad Danni's going to help you post your award. I know how to do stuff on the computer, but I have a bear of a time trying to explain it to others. sorry :P
